Bryan Samson Obituary, Former SDDC Deputy to the Commanding General

Bryan  Samson, a committed leader, Army commander, and family man, died at the age of 65 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bryan Ross Samson’s adventure began on August 1, 1957, when he was born in Hondo, TX to Walter and Joanne Samson. Bryan gained a strong sense of duty, independence, and a love of exploration while growing up in an Air Force family. He continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Management from Alfred University in 1979 and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Iowa in 1988.

Bryan proudly served his country as an officer in the United States Army for 21 years, holding different command and staff roles such as Army Quartermaster and Acquisitions Corps officer. His illustrious work brought him all around the world, eventually bringing him to Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia, where he met his adored wife, Connie. They celebrated 39 years of marriage together.

Bryan retired and returned to his hometown of Horseheads, New York, where he became Village Manager. He was later elevated to the Senior Executive Service (SES) in 2010 and worked as a Tier-II SES Deputy to the Commanding General, Army Contracting Command, until his death.

Bryan had a strong belief in making a difference and helping others his entire life. His leadership was critical in supporting the prompt acquisition and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines on a national and international scale, influencing global stability and his country’s place in it.

Bryan’s legacy will be that of a motivator, mentor, leader, and loving family guardian. He treasured his time with his wife and daughters, sharing the thrill of playing oldies rock and roll on the guitar and researching genealogy and history. His siblings were equally precious to him, and he loved the time he spent with them.

A visitation will be held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL, on Thursday, July 27, 2023, from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a funeral on Friday, July 28, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church in Huntsville. Light refreshments will be served in the Fellowship Hall following the service. Bryan will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads, New York.
