Crossplay. Just do note that It Takes Two multiplayer does not feature full cross-platform multiplayer. While a PS4 player would be able to play with a PS5 player, and the same for the Xbox platform, an Xbox Series X player wouldn’t be able to play with a PS5 player. It’s cross-gen, but not cross-platform, in essence.
In short, no, you cannot play It Takes Two in single-player. The game can only be played in co-op multiplayer either locally via splitscreen or online with another player.
What is it takes two?
It Takes Two, the co-op adventure and platformer game from EA and studio Hazelight, is meant to be enjoyed as an experience shared between two players either locally or online. Communication is key in order to complete puzzles, traverse dangerous environments, and defeat tough enemies and bosses.
According to EA: “First, have them search for It Takes Two and download the Friend’s Pass from the PlayStation Store. Then, invite them to play with you from the main menu.” If neither player owns a copy, both can still try out the first level for free.
How does it take two friends pass work?
Whichever player does not own the game needs to go to their console or PC’s store front and find and download the It Takes Two Friend’s Pass.
As explained on EA’s site, Friend’s Pass allows the owner of a copy of It Takes Two to invite a friend to play with them through online co-op, even if that friend does not own a copy of the game. Progression will be saved to Player 1’s account, but if Player 2 purchases a full game copy for themselves, all progress will carry over to their purchased copy, as well as unlocking all It Takes Two chapters Player 2 completed through Friend’s Pass.
