How Did Bill Worden WKTV Die?, Legendary Utica NewsChannel 2 Anchor

Beloved former NewsChannel 2 anchor, Bill Worden, passed away Wednesday morning following a short illness. He was 80.

From 1977 to 2012, Bill was a well-known face on television screens all over the Mohawk Valley, keeping the community informed of the most recent events and stories in the area.

The vice president and general manager of WKTV, Steve McMurray, said, “The word ‘icon’ gets thrown around a lot to characterize people whose accomplishments are noteworthy, but Bill earned that title in every meaning of the word. “Since Bill was WKTV for so long, his picture still adorns the corridor in our main entrance.”

Kristen Copeland, a current WKTV anchor, claims she watched Bill as a child and had the good fortune to co-anchor with him prior to his retirement.

“Both Bill and Utica cherished each other. He served as our anchor. Never having imagined that I would someday sit next to him as I grew up watching and learning from him, “She spoke. “He was a fantastic mentor and coworker, but above all, he was a buddy. Bill had a tale to share with you if you had the time. He had a tale to tell you even if you didn’t have time. He was an entertainer, that’s what he did. He had a way with words, whether it was in the background, on-air, or when promoting veteran causes. We are all fortunate to have gotten it because it was his gift to us.”
