He was also known for appearing in the films ‘Making the Grade’, ‘Modern Girls’, ‘Best of the Best’ and ‘Fist of the Warrior’. Born as one of three sons to a homemaker mother and a furniture manufacturer father, Dye attended Cleveland High School where he acted in plays. Following his graduation from Tupelo High School, he studied at Mississippi State University for a year and later went on to major in theatre from Memphis State. Within a short period of time, Dye managed to earn a reputation as a talented and hardworking actor. Owing to his good looks and acting skills, he earned a massive fan following and garnered a lot of attention, especially from women. Two years later, he starred alongside actresses Cynthia Gibb and Virginia Madsen in ‘Modern Girls’. Soon after this, he was cast in the lead role of Todd Barrett in Ron Casden's comedy film ‘Campus Man’. Then in 1988, the actor made guest appearances in the programs ‘CBS Summer Playhouse’ and ‘Murder, She Wrote’. A year later, he did the short film ‘Jeff Cutler’ as well as the martial arts movie ‘Best of the Best’. In 1989, Dye also started playing Francis Hockenberry in the sitcom ‘Tour of Duty’. Soon after this, he featured in ‘The Perfect Weapon’, a martial arts action flick directed by Mark DiSalle and featuring Jeff Speakman, James Hong, Mako Iwamatsu and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa.From 1992 to 1993, Dye played Greg Toback in the drama series ‘Jack's Place’. After the show ended, he starred in six episodes of ‘Hotel Malibu’ and also played Colin Adams in the mystery drama ‘Sioux City’. In 1994, he joined the cast of ‘Touched by an Angel’ as Andrew aka the "Angel of Death", a role he played until 2003. The supernatural drama series premiered on CBS on 21 September 1994 and ran for nine seasons, covering 211 episodes. In 1998, it went into syndication was shown on Hallmark Channel, Ion Television, CBS Drama, Disney Channel UK, Up, Start TV and Me-TV. His mother was a homemaker while his father served as furniture manufacturer. He had two brothers, Jerre and Jamey. He attended Cleveland High School and later graduated from Tupelo High School. After graduating, Dye enrolled at the Mississippi State University with the aim of becoming a civil rights lawyer. However, he dropped out from there after a year, and decided to become an actor. He eventually majored in theater from the University of Memphis.Dye was found dead in his house in San Francisco on January 10, 2011. As per his family members, the cause of the death was heart-related problems.
