Julie Van Valkenburg Committed suicide at Erlanger Hospital

Jake and I are also sorry to report that our dear Lucy passed away yesterday. A very remarkable Maine Coon rescue, Lucy. Lucy had been adopted by Julie and Jake fourteen years earlier when she was a not-so-small kitten from a Cracker Barrel parking lot north of Atlanta.

Since Lucy was usually by Julie’s side whenever she was ill, we referred to her as Julie’s nurse. Julie would be offended if I shared her picture, but it is the most accurate portrayal of “Nurse Lucy” we have.

Lucy had been receiving cancer treatment, and during the past few weeks, we had begun to see a serious drop in her condition. Jake and I debated for a while before deciding to put an end to her suffering yesterday morning. We adored Lucy and are incredibly appreciative of all the love she lavished on our family.
