Laurence Allen Elder, a right-leaning political commentator and host of a conservative talk radio show, was born on April 27, 1952. In the Los Angeles communities of Pico-Union and South Central, Laurence Allen Elder was brought up. Elder is the middle brother of three brothers.

After serving as a sergeant in the US Marine Corps during World War II, his father Randolph (1915–2011), who was born in Athens, Georgia, made the Second Great Migration from Georgia to California.

Elder hosts the Larry Elder Show, which is situated in California. On the Los Angeles radio station KABC, the show had its debut in 1993 as a local program.

The program is nationally syndicated, first through ABC Radio Networks from 2002 to 2007, and then through Salem Media Group from 2015 to 2022. He still maintains ties to The Epoch Times, a radical right publication that supported the Falun Gong movement.
