Lawrence I. Ames Dies in Tragic House Fire on Oshkosh’s North Side

Lawrence I. Ames was recognized by the Oshkosh Fire Department as the guy who was discovered deceased in a house fire. His age was 69 years.

On the north side of Oshkosh, in the 1800 block of Ashland St., there was a fire that was reported just before five o’clock on Thursday morning.

Four minutes later, the first team arrived and saw that the house was emitting a lot of black smoke. Ames was discovered deceased by the fire crew after they searched the house.

Some of the occupants of the house managed to escape.

The investigation into the fire’s cause is still ongoing.

The home was severely damaged by fire and smoke. The American Red Cross and the Community Crisis Closet of the Oshkosh Police Department provided aid to the family.
