Missing Landon Crook Found Dead in Sand Hollow State Park

According to the Utah Division of State Parks, a Utah youngster died while paddleboarding at Sand Hollow State Park on Thursday morning.

Around 10 a.m., Landon Crook, a 15-year-old South Jordan resident, went off his paddleboard while enjoying the park’s south beach with his family. Around 12:30 p.m., first responders discovered his body under about 25 feet of water after they phoned for assistance when he failed to surface, according to officials.

According to officials, the weather was comparatively calm at the time of the fall, and the water’s surface temperature was about 80 degrees. Landon didn’t have a life jacket on. The state parks division is currently looking into what caused his death.

The news release advises families to put safety first when going outside. Always go out on the water with a friend, wear a helmet and a life jacket, and tell someone where you are going and when you intend to return.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue team, the Washington County dive team, Hurricane City police, and the Division of Outdoor Recreation’s remotely controlled vehicle squad were among the first responders that assisted with the call.
