Obituary | Joseph Olivieri Passes Away, Josef’s School of Hair Design founder

Joseph Olivieri passed away on December 22 at the age of 97.

He was known for founding Josef’s School of Hair Design in Fargo and for his distinctive personal style and dapper demeanor.

Olivieri, who is better known by his stage name Mr. Josef, started his hair design school in 1960 with just three pupils.

He had 100 in less than a year.

At its three sites, the school had 200 students enrolled by 2010, the year it celebrated its 50th anniversary.

In the mid-1950s, Olivieri received his beauty school diploma from Hollywood, California, and in the mid-1940s, he was the only male student at Fargo’s New York Hairdressing Academy.
