Police in Liberty lament the death of a sergeant due to a medical emergency.

LIBERTY, Mo. — The Liberty Police Department is in mourning following the weekend death of a sergeant due to a medical emergency.

The department reported that Sgt. Gary Ewer was attending church on Sunday when he suffered a medical emergency and was transported to the hospital by first responders.

He later died. His wife and police family, according to the Liberty Police Department, were at his side.

“Yesterday, we lost a beloved brother in blue, sergeant, husband, and father, among many other wonderful titles,” the police department of Liberty wrote on Facebook.

The city of Liberty issued the following social media statement:

“Sergeant Gary Ewer will be missed beyond description. Please remember his family and police department siblings in your prayers.”

According to Liberty police, Ewer began working for the department in 1996 and served in every division an officer could work in the agency.
