A devastating accident in Butler County claimed the lives of Wichita veterinarian Dr. Monica Moore and her daughter on Sunday, leaving the community in shock and grief.
The tragic incident occurred at the intersection of SW 150th Road and SW Santa Fe Lake Road, southwest of Augusta. The Kansas Highway Patrol responded to a collision involving a 2009 Chevrolet Suburban and a 2019 Acura RDX. The Suburban, driven by a 30-year-old El Dorado woman, failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with the RDX heading south on SW Santa Fe Lake Road.
Both vehicles left the road, with the Suburban ending up in a ditch and the RDX rolling once before resting against a tree. Dr. Monica Moore, 46, and her daughter, occupants of the RDX, suffered fatal consequences. Moore was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 30-year-old El Dorado woman was transported to Wesley Medical Center with suspected serious injuries. The Kansas Highway Patrol crash log did not release information about the minor involved in the accident.
Dr. Monica Moore, co-owner of Sisters (Herndon) Veterinary Clinic in Wichita, was known for her passion for animals. A Kansas State University graduate, she earned her doctorate of veterinary medicine in 2003. Moore joined Herndon Veterinary Clinic in 2008, later purchasing the clinic with her sister, Dr. April Horn, in 2017.
