Rachel Anne Maddow is an American television program host and liberal political commentator. Maddow hosts The Rachel Maddow Show, a weekly television show on MSNBC, and serves as the cable network’s special event co-anchor.
Maddow was born in the state of California in April of 1973 to Robert B. Maddow who was a former United States Air Force captain and lawyer and Elaine Maddow who was a school program administrator.

She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in public policy from Stanford University in 1994. Upon graduation, he received the John Gardner Scholarship.
She received a Rhodes Scholarship and began her undergraduate studies at Lincoln College Oxford in 1995. She also received a Marshall Scholarship the same year, but turned it down in Rhodes’ favor. This made her the first openly lesbian winner of the Rhodes Scholarship.
In 2001 Rachel received her PhD in Political Science (DPhil) from the University of Oxford. Her thesis is titled HIV / AIDS and Healthcare Reform in Prisons in the United Kingdom and the United States and was supervised by her professor Lucia Zeidner.
